Hit the Hogs Hard with Winchester

Hunters often flock to the Lone Star state to dial in on whitetail deer and mule deer. When the Winchester crew visited Texas in January, they had their sights set on antlers. But the hunters got a firsthand look at the wild pig problem in Texas…and got the chance to take a shot at swine.

Wild hogs are an invasive species that have infiltrated numerous states across the country. There are now over 6 million feral pigs in 39 states, including Texas. Because of these booming numbers—and the pigs’ tendencies to multiply quickly and cause massive destruction—Texas has an open season on hogs. If you have the proper license, you can take aim at swine throughout the year.

A wild boar has a thick hide, bone and fat layers, so hog hunters need a hearty bullet that can penetrate the tough barriers. A solid choice of ammo to get locked and loaded with when you want to drop these invasive animals? Winchester Deer Season XP Copper Impact. It’s designed for destruction and can penetrate the thickest of hides.

While Casey Keefer was in Texas hunting whitetail with the Winchester crew, he crossed paths with a group of wild pigs. Deer Season XP Copper Impact loaded in an Winchester XPR did the job, proving the tough durability of this exceptional ammunition.

Though it has “deer season” in its name, Deer Season XP Copper Impact’s use goes beyond deer. The Extreme Point, copper-solid bullet features an oversized impact diameter, delivering intense impact trauma and better energy transfer. One shot of Copper Impact will create massive wound cavities for terminal results. The solid-copper bullet design improves weight retention, delivering the deep penetration you need when hog hunting.

A wild hog’s blood trail isn’t as easily identifiable as a deer. The animal’s thick layer of hair soaks blood up like a sponge, and it takes longer for the blood to pump through the pig’s fat layers. With Copper Impact, the lethal design has significant knockdown power…so looking for a blood trail won’t be needed. The ammunition will do all the work for you, right on the spot. Shot fired. Power delivered. Hog down.

Casey lives off of the adrenaline and the solitude he finds in the most remote corners of the world. Essentially, this charges his batteries. For him, it’s not about the end game, it’s about the journey. He considers it his duty to “pass it on,” so that hopefully you can experience the same in your very own way – wherever that may be, chasing whatever you may chase. Casey is co-host of Winchester Life. He and brother Chris find themselves pursuing big game a large amount of time in Alaska.
