Curiosity Won’t Kill The Turkey Hunter
Turkey hunters are constantly trying to up their game and create the perfect gun, choke and ammo combination. We all want the perfect balance for those extremely close shots yet still have the opportunity to take a bird if it happens to hang up.
Spending countless hours at the range is great, but sometimes we just don’t have the time. We’ll all make the time to ensure our setup is ready to go before the hunt, but what about trying a variety of combinations on your lunch hour right from your office?
Well Winchester just came out with the new Pattern Board App, which was specifically designed with turkey hunters in mind.
Once you download it on your laptop or phone it allows you to basically test out different turkey loads, chokes, shell lengths, pellet size, gauge and see how they pattern at a variety of distances without actually pulling the trigger yourself. The coolest part is this is not a simulation. There were close to 3,000 actual patterns shot at the range by Winchester engineers. Now that’s dedication.
This is not something that is meant to keep hunters from practicing or putting in their time at the range, but what it does for me is help satisfy my curiosity. There are times where I may be bored in an airport or waiting on someone, and because it’s right there on my phone, I pull it out and try a few combinations. I’ve used the Winchester Ballistics app on my phone for years. Not only in the field or at the range, but I like to go over the ballistics of different calibers, wind conditions, etc. just because I’m curious. Nothing can beat actually getting out there and shooting, but for times when you’re stuck somewhere this can be a pretty cool app to have on your phone. Plus you never know, you may find a combination that appears to perform better than your current setup! Take a minute to download the app for free and never know what you may learn.
