Humorous Hunting Differences Between the Sexes
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to go on several hunting trips with some of the coolest and most knowledgeable men and women in the industry.
Base camp memories involve laughing until we cry, sharing stories, eating plenty of food, dancing, being sleep deprived and of course, hunting our a%$#@s off!As I was reflecting on these trips and pondering my next blog, I started thinking about some of the funny observations made of the differences between men and women at hunting camp. So, I started thinking: How can I describe what it is like to be the only female at camp? Or, what is it like to share camp with all females?
So today, I thought I would light-heartedly share with you what it’s like from the woman’s point of view! To tell you the truth there aren’t many differences, but there are a few!
1.) Clothing
Even though camouflage is the obvious choice when heading out, the ladies still have difficulty deciding what to wear! Is it form-fitting? Is it warm enough? More importantly…will you be able to tell a female from a male? Or better yet, is it that magical combination of being warm enough AND making us look like females!? But then there are the men…they don’t even think twice about what to wear and will likely pack one outfit to last the entire week. Must be nice to live so free!
2.) Early Mornings
Often, early mornings are the norm. Say we need to leave for the woods by 5:00am - women will have to set an alarm an hour earlier just to get ready for the hunt. Then tack on another 15 minutes for “just in case” time. Meaning…we set our alarm at least an hour and fifteen minutes before departure time. And yes, we will use up every last minute of that before heading out. Men on the other hand - alarm set for 4:50am and out the door by 4:55am.
3.) When Nature Calls
This one is the biggest disadvantage for the ladies! Men can and will literally just turn around or step out of the blind and let it fly. Women, on the other hand, will hold it for as long as possible before making an announcement that it’s time to go to the bathroom! Then it’s time to set out on our odyssey to find that perfectly private spot to go…a process that can eat up quite a bit of time. More often than not, I will choose slight dehydration over dealing with this entire process…haha!
4.) Packing
Women plan for weeks in advance and start organizing their suitcase to ensure that nothing is left behind or forgotten – this usually results in excessive over-packing. Men, on the other hand, wait until the last minute to pack the night before. But then again, that dirty, reusable single outfit I mentioned earlier sure helps save time and room!
5.) Scent-Free Soap
If I had to name just one major difference between men and women at hunting camp, it would be the products we use in the shower. We all like to be scent free, but when you combine “shampoo and body wash” into one product it makes us females cringe. We need scent-free shampoo, scent-free conditioner, and scent-free body wash (all in their own, separate bottles).
I really got a kick out of some of these differences and thought they might make a funny blog to share! I say most of this in jest, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of truth to it all! Ladies, we try to be as hassle-free as possible while kicking a$% in the woods, but do you deal with any of the same hassles I do? Guys, is it always as easy as it looks for you?!
