Outdoor Television At Its Finest – Winchester Style
There was little in the way for hunters to whet their appetite for the outdoors when they couldn’t be out there themselves except through magazines.
It was little more than 20 years ago that outdoor television programming was largely relegated to a handful of local stations with no national presence short of the long-running and once popular American Sportsman program, which aired on ABC from 1965 to 1986. The programs were often pinched into early Saturday morning time slots or Sunday afternoons.
Then came along the likes of the Outdoor Channel, the Sportsman Channel, the Pursuit Channel, the former Nashville Network (TNN, remember that one?) and others such as NBC Sports and even ESPN for awhile. Today, sportsmen have a wealth of programming at their fingertips to entertain them and help them learn new tactics or see new places or simply experience adventures on screen that they hope to one-day experience in person. And of course, as anyone reading this might expect, Winchester, the most legendary name in ammunition, is right there in the mix, being featured on a number of programs they support through advertising, including four programs that they host: Winchester Legends, Winchester World of Whitetail, Winchester Deadly Passion and Whitetail Frenzy.
These programs are put together with the same expert care and professionalism as every Winchester load, so while there are varying degrees of program quality across the spectrum of cable television, you know with Winchester’s programs and personalities, you are learning from some of the best sportsmen (and women) in the outdoors. Here’s a little more about each program and where and when you can catch the action. (All times are in Eastern Standard Time.)
Winchester Legends—Spanning the globe, Winchester Legends brings you an unequaled and exciting hunting adventure each and every week. Join hosts Bob Foulkrod, Steve Farris and Melissa Bachman as they venture near and far in search of the hunting world’s most sought-after game species from gigantic whitetails to the majestic Alaskan grizzly bear. With each bringing their unique skills to the challenges of hunting –– these seasoned hunters’ experience, wits and will are put to the ultimate test. Airs on the Outdoor Channel Mondays at 10 a.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Fridays at 9:30 p.m.
Winchester World of Whitetail—Winchester World of Whitetail is a hard-core whitetail hunting series with a behind-the-scenes reality look into the life of series host, Ron Spomer. Ron’s background enables him to reveal many of the secrets of successful whitetail deer hunting and species biology behind America’s favorite big game species. We’ll vicariously follow Ron as he preps for hunts and get the inside scoop on his rituals, strategies and tactics that allow him continuous success harvesting older, mature bucks.
Airs on the Sportsman Channel Fridays at 3 p.m., Saturdays at 7 a.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.
Winchester Deadly Passion— Every good hunter needs a solid role model, and Melissa Bachman, host of Winchester Deadly Passion, fits that bill perfectly with a unique ability to share her love for all things wild with her passionate fans and viewers. Winchester Deadly Passion is 26-weeks of non-stop action and pure entertainment as Melissa travels the globe going head to head with everything from world-class red stag and thousand-pound gators to Boone and Crocket whitetails and thunderous bull elk.
With rifle, bow or shotgun in hand, Melissa’s fast-paced, in-the-moment hunting style will keep you on the edge of your seat, while her expertise and decades of experience give viewers useful tips and strategies they can use afield. Airs on the Sportsman Channel and Wild TV Sundays at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Whitetail Frenzy—The Appalachian Region has some of the toughest and hardest to hunt terrain found in North America, and ranks relatively low in Pope and Young whitetail harvests. Host Kenny and Aharon Davis along with their team of talented bow hunters have set out with their Winchester Bows attempting to accomplish something no other television show has…to consistently harvest mature whitetail on film in the Appalachian Mountains. Airs on the Sportsman Channel Mondays at 10:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 1:30 a.m. and Fridays at 11 a.m.
And what’s best, you don’t have to wait for those specific air times to get in on the action. At tv.winchester.com, you can catch past episodes of all four programs where you can watch them whenever you want—from the comfort of your home computer or on the go with a digital device. You can even watch it from your favorite deer stand!
